Animal Cruelty Prevention Month is upon us now that April is here. Did you know that every year, HART takes in multiple equines (horses and donkeys) from across Brevard County that have been abused or neglected? When an animal is taken away or surrendered to county, that animal has to go somewhere. HART is one of those special havens that takes in our larger four-legged friends. They have to go into a 30 days quarantine. They will be vetted and observed daily and their special needs tended to. Sadly, there has been a time where we had to do the most humane gift which was putting down a horse. Thankfully, that is rare. After the quarantine is lifted and court proceedings are decided, they are able to merge in with the HART herd family. From there, they continue rehabilitating their physical and emotional scars until it is time when they can move onto their new family’s home.
At HART, we love any support we could receive from the community to care for such deserving creatures.
