HART’s summer camp is one of unique distinction in that it is a structured program dedicated to a high level of horsemanship education. There is a great deal of riding time involved in our camp, and time spent off the horse is utilized teaching groundwork and care of the horse — not doing filler type activities. Althoughit is an intense program with much content, it is delivered in a fun, safe, and age appropriate engaging way.
Each camp will consist of a maximum of 3 groups of 4 children with one hour rotations. While 2 of the 3 rotations will be working directly on skills to develop the child’s riding position and relationship with the horse, the third rotation will consist of care and maintenance of the horse.
All students must wear long pants and closed toed shoes (a boot with a heel is preferred). Water and sunscreen are available, but it is advised that all students bring with them all necessary drinks, snacks, sunscreen that may be needed. If a student is on special medication, that medication should also be packed and brought with them to the camp.
Here is a list of topics that, although not comprehensive, will be included in the camp:
- Safely leading horses
- Body language of the horse
- Grooming
- Tacking up
- Importance of riding position
- Riding a jump course basics
- Riding in groups
- Round penning and training from the ground
