Through the night, on September 10th to 11th, HART survived a deadly Cat 4 (diminishing to Cat 3) hurricane. Irma wreaked havoc across the Caribbean, then the Keys and making landfall in the Marco Island, FL area. From Sunday night into Monday morning, Irma’s winds howled at top gust speeds of 94 mph across HART property. When the winds died down and it was safe for founder, Suzanna Norris, to travel back onto the property, she found all the horses accounted for and doing well. Equally wonderful, she found HART pastures to be wet but not flooded. Many stables across Brevard County did not fare as well as HART. So, we knew we had to move into action to Pay-It-Forward to others in the equine community. A barn in Rockledge had two feet of water in their stalls, so HART was able to take in one of those horses onto our property. Another stables in Port St. John also found themselves under water. Suzanna Norris was able to pick up 3 of the horses and move them to dryer ground on another property in a neighboring community. (See pictures above) Later in that day, she made two more runs to Valkaria, FL where she relocated several horses to other barns in Brevard County.
HART has been so blessed over the years by having the community come to our aid many times and so it was wonderful to repay the favor and give back to them.
